RICH GUZZI’S “START JOKING! STOP SMOKING!” AMERICA TOUR
TARGETS 100,000 PEOPLE TO QUIT SMOKING THROUGH HYPNOSIS
Nashville, TN, 2009 - Veteran stand-up comic and hypnotist Rich Guzzi has an unprecedented goal: To get 100,000 Americans to quit smoking through hypnosis.
Rich Guzzi’s “Start Joking! Stop Smoking!” America Tour 2010, starting January 1, will take the stage performer to comedy clubs across the USA, as he plays to audiences from Florida to Alaska, and from the East Coast to the West Coast in more than 200 live shows. Guzzi will be recording the entire tour for a planned, upcoming DVD documentary. After more than a decade of highly successful live shows throughout America as a comic and hypnotist, Guzzi has decided the time was right to now take his high-powered stage performances to the next level.
To combat the addiction of smokers, Guzzi has decided to use his hypnotic talents for the betterment of his fellow man. During the six month tour, he will bring selected audience members up on stage and hypnotize between 10-12 of them, per show, therefore demonstrating to the rest of the crowd what a powerful tool hypnosis can be in efforts to quit smoking. In addition, Guzzi will promote to his audiences his free “Stop Smoking Now and Forever” self-help program, which he will be giving away for free on a newly built web site www.StopSmokingForFree.org
The timing behind Guzzi’s upcoming tour was inspired by the just released Surgeon General’s report that declares the “indisputable evidence” that the noxious fumes from secondhand cigarette smoke are a major health threat that kills an estimated 50,000 people each year. Guzzi’s father, a life-long smoker, died in l984 of a massive heart attack as a passenger in Guzzi’s car, while the performer himself was driving. The elder Guzzi’s death was caused by hardening of the arteries, caused by the effects of smoking. “My father’s death was an incredible event in my life, and I realized the powerful impact that nicotine addiction could have on the lives of other people.”
Guzzi believes that through this unique combination of live shows and online visits, he can effectively utilize his skills to permanently affect 100,000 Americans to kick the habit. Guzzi says, “Visitors who join the site will have access to peer-to-peer support, becoming highly proactive, and taking accountability and responsibility for their actions.”
He continues, “We all know the dangers of cigarette smoke, and clearly there are countless people who will try almost anything to quit. By balancing self-help material, audience hypnosis and humor, I am hoping to help 100,000 people be cigarette free. There is also a financial benefit in quitting smoking: As I see it, if the average person smokes a pack to a pack and a half a day, they will spend roughly $2,500 a year. Multiply that by 100,000, and we’re looking at $250 million less in the coffers of the cigarette companies. That’s sending a real message to big tobacco!”
In addition to his on-going comedy and hypnosis live shows, Guzzi also conducts private and corporate seminars on such topics as weight loss and stress reduction. The performer is also currently writing a series of self-help books.
ABOUT RICH GUZZI:
A native of Long Island, Rich Guzzi, 46, is all New York, all the time. With a brash swagger that controls audiences in every nightclub and concert hall in which he appears, there is no mistaking his East Coast sensibilities and drive. He has performed over 5,000 live shows during the past 15 years.
More than just the childhood class clown, Guzzi had a knack early on in his life for soliciting laughter through his well-executed quips and anecdotes. It was this gift that would ultimately propel him to climb on stage as a stand-up comic at the age of 29 and perform hundreds of dates across the USA like he was shot from a cannon.
After 10 years on stage and radio appearances as a comic, Guzzi added his talents as a hypnotist to his comedy show. (NOTE: He learned the art of hypnosis at the age of 12.) He has since mastered the art with style and substance, and has developed a highly entertaining hypnosis show with maximum audience participation. His shows have it all… comedy, drama, characters, role-playing and self-awareness.
Never one to settle, Guzzi continues to expand his repertoire by appealing to the masses as a self-proclaimed “blue-collar self-help guy.” His material is definitely real-life, and he considers himself a cross between Tony Robbins and Tony Soprano. His mesmerizing hypnosis techniques, along with integrated self-help and personal motivation tips, all delivered via his comedic form, almost dare members of his audience not to participate.
Guzzi currently lives in Nashville Tennessee.
